middle schoolers..

So, I’m teaching my first art class for middle schoolers tommorow at Hood River Alliance church, at the youth center. My brother-in-law Ben is the after school activities coordinator and he asked me to volunteer and teach an art class. I said yes and have gone back and forth of being excited to stressed, to second-guessing why I said yes, back to excited.

So, my idea was that we would hand make sketchbooks for our first lesson. I just tried sewing some pages together, and lasted about 20 seconds. haha, I know I know, I’m pathetic, ha. Anyway, I concluded that my lack of patience for crafts like that probably resembles that of a middle schooler, so I’m thinking we will not do that craft tommorow (and mainly because I haven’t prepared as much as I would like). But, I’m really glad I tried it out first, because now I can focus on projects that will keep both my attention, and the middle schoolers. wow.

Rather than sketchbooks, tommorow we will focus on figure drawing. I have taught this lesson before and am familiar with all of the concepts. We’ll also talk about the importance of art, basics of line quality and art overall.

I’m really hoping it goes well, that I can actually be helpful to some students and be successful in Ben’s eyes, that’s my biggest worry. Anyway, I will take some pictures and report back how the drawings went.

If you are human, which I’m guessing you are, you have the desire to be someone greater. It’s natural, it was given to us by our Creator, God, who ultimately put us here on this earth for a purpose, while serving Him. So cool! It’s really exciting, but sometimes it is super easy to get distracted.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, recently today, and as I was sitting on my bed, pondering this thought, these images flashed on my screen, so I thought I would share them.

This past weekend was my church’s annual Women’s retreat. It was from friday to sunday at the Chirstain Conference Center in Cannon Beach, OR. Overall, it was three days of relaxation, laughter, bonding, crying and deep meditation with Christ. There is no doubt that God was moving and lives were changed.

At one point, a group of us were talking about how at the mens retreat they have a ropes course and paintballing. A few of us was wondering why we didn’t have those activities. haha…but giving that there were maybe 3 other girls my age out of 90 women, and a good 10 years age difference from the rest of the women, shopping and beach combing was about as extreme as we got.

Overall, it was a life changing experience and so glad I went. Here’s a few photos taken on my phone from the weekend. enjoy!

Sitting here… eating coconut milk ice cream (if you haven’t tried it, get on that..) anyway, ponderin life, tomorow, the day, listening to Adele (new favorite thing) – her song ‘set fire to the rain’ is pretty amazing, so is ‘someone life you,’ lately I’m just a really huge fan of hers, so anything of hers, is golden.

Anyway, I;ve realized my need to have fun, and to make up my mind (on my own).

At work today, this lady Jean, (who is really great) kept asking me what I would like to do, like to chose my task, and it was really hard. Like it really didn’t matter, because i’ve been so used to having people tell me what to do, all of sudden having to choose, was like, whoa, i need to think for myself more. Anyway, so working on that.

Also, fun! I need to have more fun. Just pure bliss fun. I’m thinking moving and getting a solid job and just being. Someplace with enjoyment. But to grow and play and live. Also, being a wedding a photographer would be pretty radical. I really need to remeber that when someone asks me what I see myself doing in the future. ha.

This post was written a while ago, and I didn’t really like the feel of it so I’m trying again.

First! The picture above - love it! I want to have pictures taken like these someday, seriously. However, did you know that those two never got married? Yes, I learned this crazy piece of not really useful information from my grandmother about a week ago. Yes, Audrey Hepburn never married him, matthew harris(?), but they dated for about 20 years. whoa! Actually, he was married to another woman, who was in a wheel chair.

hmm…weird that I saw a quote from her today that said, “when i marry, i want to be very married.” I really like this quote, but for me it loses all sense of genuinity coming from someone who dated a married guy for 20 years, and never actually had the chance to be “very married.” hmmm. again, nothing that really matters in the happenings of life, but seriously. When little girls, or young women, including myself, see this quote on marriage, I think, “Aw, she must have lived a romantic life.” To a guy who was married!

Today I feel like it is important to discuss my cousin (best friend from childhood) Stacie Farmer who passed away about two weeks ago, on her 24th birthday, September 15th. Stacie was hit and killed by a car while riding her bicycle in West Virginia, where she was a river raft guide.

My cousin Stacie Farmer, a beautiful, fun-loving, outdoorsy, adventurest, girl after my own heart, also very dear to me and a friend my whole life - She was an organ donor.

Stacie Farmer ~ Sept 15,1986 to Sept 15, 2010

She was a light and she’ll be missed.

Today I opened my home page, which was MSN and found this:

It brought me to tears, but at the same time it is so wonderful and beautiful how intimately connected we all are. It also touched home with me because Stacie’s body was used to save 6 other people’s life. 6!

Taylor’s family (the 13 year old girl in the article) started a foundation called Taylor’s Gift, www.taylorsgift.org which is dedicated revealing the importance of registering for organ donation.
